Home for the Holidays

To be sung to the tune of “Jingle Bells

Waiting to board the plane
Going home for the holidays
Got presents on the brain
Don’t want to be delayed.

But you need to kill an hour
So you decide to use your phone
SCVNGR challenges to devour
You’re in a re-ward zone!

Oh, family visits, fighting siblings, traditions every day,
Oh, what fun it is to play
Home for the Holidays, hey!
Apple pies, fireplaces, reunions all the way,
Oh, what fun it is to play
Home for the Holidays!

So what’s in it for me?
You ask as you sing this song
Challenges with a holiday theme
How could you go wrong?

Unlock a gift card
For last-minute shopping fun
Find presents for your family and friends
When you find out you’ve won!

Oh, AmEx gift cards, shopping sprees, gift-giving every day,
Oh, what fun it is to play
Home for the Holidays, hey!
Mistletoe, snowball fights, ugly sweaters all the way,
Oh, what fun it is to play
Home for the Holidays!*

*In case the holiday fever has gone to your head, playing Home for the Holidays at airports when you’re headed home can unlock the chance to win a $400 American Express® gift card. Can you say, holiday shopping?

Brains? BRAAAAAAAAINS!!

Did you know that brains have the highest cholesterol content of any food? This is why many Zombies suffer from congenital heart failure. Luckily, that doesn’t matter because they’re dead.

Jealous? US TOO! That’s why we’re running the SCVNGR Zombie Apocalypse on November 10th. Zombies will arrive at Johnny D’s from 6pm to 7pm to check in and be caked in blood makeup (of course). At 7pm, we will unleash the horde on Davis Square to go places, do challenges, earn points and eat brains, you know how it goes. Around 8pm, we will stagger back to Johnny D’s to enjoy our fellow Zombies and Flow Tribe a (living) very strange and very cool band from New Orleans. At 9:30pm, we will announce our Zombie overlord.

You, too, can live the high life of a zombie by joining us at the Zombie Apocalypse!! Get your tickets here: http://livingdeaduprising-boston.eventbrite.com/

Say it with us now. “Brains?? BRAAAAAAINNSS!!” Be there, or be eaten.

Vroom, Vroom Party Starter

Along with our usual exciting line-up of Diamond Dashes and Home Races, this weekend also marks the official kick-off of the Chevy Sonic Adventure. And as our Chief Ninja often says, it’s going to be EPIC.

Like all other events using SCVNGR, each Chevy Sonic Adventure is high-tech and energizing. Teams of two will follow clues on their phones (via standard text message or SCVNGR app for iPhone and Android), do challenges, and earn points. The grand prize at stake is (cue Bob Barker voice) … a new car! An all-new 2012 Chevy Sonic Sedan 2LT to be exact.

As if that wasn’t enough, event participants also have the chance to help a good cause by raising awareness for the American Cancer Society. If the winning team is from a local college or university, SCVNGR will donate $1,000 in the school’s name.

Check out the dates and locations below to see if our Chevy XPro Team will be visiting your hometown.

Philips + SCVNGR = One Bright Idea

The Philips LED Light Experience, is hitting the road this fall and inviting you to see what light can do! Philips has partnered with SCVNGR to bring you challenges and rewards at 8 cities across the U.S., including Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Boston.

The traveling tour will demonstrate how LED lighting can not only help you enhance a room, but also save you money (a radiant idea, if you ask us). The tour welcomes you to explore Philips’ industry-changing technologies, then use your newly imparted “illumi-knowledge” to unlock scintillating rewards!

While you’re anxiously waiting for the Philips LED Light Experience to visit your hometown, we recommend brushing up on your Philips factoids with these sample challenges:

  • Halo Silhouette:  “Position yourself in front of one of the bright AmbientLED bulbs & get a picture of this super artsy halo-effect.”
  • Lightover Dreams: “Which room in your home needs a “lightover”? Tell us the room & why it’s in dire need of some sweet AmbientLED bulbs.”
  • Science of the Bulb: “What’s the yellow coating that converts the LED light from blue to white? Tell us what takes it from being a yellow ugly duckling to a beautiful white swan.”

Bad News: Supermarkets Are Haunted

“What?!?! But I need to stock up on Acai Berries!”

If by Acai Berrries you mean delicious Halloween treats, we feel your pain. After all, it’s October. The time of year where chocolate tastes better, deserted houses get creepier, and tickets to Rocky Horror sell out faster than you can do the Time Warp.

This October, SCVNGR’s encouraging you to brave the boogeymen at your local supermarket. Whether you’re running from an army of zombies (our bad… sorry) or stocking up on garlic to ward off vampires, playing SCVNGR at “spookermarkets” could unlock some major rewards. We’re talking the chance to win a lifetime supply of super-powered ghost repellent* or a Sony® NEX-3 digital camera with HD video and ectoplasm-proof 16mm lens. The choice is yours.

The challenges, designed to prep you for All Hallows’ Eve, include:

  • Headless Cart Rider: “Pull your jacket up around your head & become the headless grocery cart rider. Have a friend snap a photo as you struggle to find your groceries.”
  • It’s Coming For You: “Get a photo as if you’re being chased down the aisle by the scariest Halloween spook. It’s getting closer… It’s coming for you.”
  • Trick Or… What Is That?: “What’s the worst trick-or-treat item that you’ve had in your stash at the end of the night? The toothbrush/apple combo never sits well.”

So when you just can’t wait any longer for Acai Berries, remember that running from Frankenstein (he’s faster than he looks) could be worth the reward.

P.S. We didn’t want to scare you, but we already caught a ghoulish character haunting SCVNGR HQ:

In case you wanted to find out exactly which supermarkets are haunted, visit http://scvngr.com/spooktacularsupermarkets. Consider yourself warned.

*Our lawyers want you to know this is not a real thing, and therefore we can’t really give it away. Lamesauce.
